How does the Floating Dock system hold up to typhoons?
Floating Dock's modular design and superior material elasticity hold up quite well in a typhoon depending on the installation configuration. The flexibility of connected cubes allows the dock platform to bend with the wave motion instead of resisting it rigidly, reducing structural shear stress. Can I get the Floating Dock system if there is no dealer in the Busan or South Korean market?
Yes. Can I leave my dock in the water during winter?
Absolutely. The modular system can be left in the water year-round, even in freezing seawater conditions. The Floating Dock system is designed to withstand ice expansion. The specialized draft of each cube, coupled with the convex lower profiles, allows the dock platform to pop up on top of the ice sheet rather than being crushed by lateral forces.
How does floating ice affect the dock system?
The primary concern with ice is water flow velocity. If the local bay experiences heavy currents or large, moving ice floes during thaw cycles, we recommend temporary removal or protecting the structure with ice booms. If the water freezes and thaws statically without large shifting sheets of thick ice, leaving the dock in the water is perfectly safe.
How many cubes wide are required for a stable walking platform?
Our cubes can be configured for floating platforms, gangways, fingers, or custom shapes. For general public use or commercial walking platforms, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes (approx. 1.5 meters). This width provides excellent lateral stability and comfortably supports multiple walking loads due to the balanced buoyancy distribution of each cube (approx. 90kg / 200 lbs per cube).
Will the modular system function in shallow water zones?
Yes. These pontoons draft only 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of water when unloaded. The system can rest safely on the seabed mud or sand during low tides. The primary consideration is ensuring adequate water depth at the launch end of the dock so boats can be backed off and launched without grounding.
