Can I leave my dock in the water during the freezing winter time?
Absolutely. The dock system can remain in the water year-round, including in ice. The patented wedge design of our modular cubes allows the dock to pop up on top of the ice sheet rather than being crushed. However, in moving ice fields with strong currents, seasonal extraction is recommended to prevent ice floes from damaging anchoring systems.
How does shifting ice affect the system overall?
The primary risk from winter ice is water flow and ice movement. If the ice thaws statically, our system will rise and fall with the changing water levels. If large, heavy blocks of flowing ice move actively around the structure, they can exert massive sheer forces. In areas with high flow ice risks, removing the dock before freezing is highly recommended.
How many cubes wide is required for a stable walking platform?
To maintain dynamic stability and prevent excessive roll under foot traffic, a walking platform must be at least three cubes wide (approx. 1.5 meters). With each individual cube supporting up to 90 kg (200 lbs) of balanced buoyancy, a 3-cube wide deck easily supports multiple walking adults while maintaining flat, safe trim.
Will the system work effectively in shallow water zones?
Yes, the system operates well in shallow water. Our cubes draw only 5 to 10 centimeters (2 to 4 inches) of water when unloaded. The dock system can rest flat on a soft mud or sand bed during low tides and rise naturally with returning water. A critical requirement is ensuring adequate water depth at the ramp end so your vessel does not ground out when backing off.
