Can I leave my floating dock in the water during winter freezing periods?
Absolutely. The dock system can be left in the water year-round, including in salt water and ice conditions. The system is specifically engineered to handle ice freezes. The unique chamfered underside and structural shape of the cube allow the ice compression force to pop the floating dock up on top of the ice sheet rather than crushing the walls.
How does moving ice flow affect the system during winter?
The main risk associated with moving ice is mechanical shearing from current flows. If the ice thaws out and simply melts back into the water level, you can leave our dock in all year. However, if there are large blocks of heavy flowing ice moving rapidly downstream, they can act as a battering ram, which will damage or tear away any dock structure (including concrete or steel). In such dynamic environments, we advise unpinning and removing the modular sections for storage.
How many cubes wide are required for a stable walking platform?
Our cubes are highly customizable for configurations like walkways, fingers, and platforms. For a safe, stable walking surface, the platform must be at least three cubes wide. This distributes load-bearing weight evenly, minimizing tipping moments when users walk along the edges.
Will the modular system work in shallow water conditions?
Yes. The floating cubes draw only about 2 to 4 inches of water when unloaded. The minimum functional depth is determined by the rear launch zone where crafts drive on. The system can rest safely on the seabed at low tide, provided there are no sharp rocks or debris beneath the structure.
