Can I leave my modular floating dock in the water during freezing winter conditions?
Absolutely. Our system is designed to handle winter temperatures down to -60°C. When water freezes, the lateral ice pressure slides against the dock's tapered, smooth draft surface, causing the modular grid to pop up and rest on top of the ice sheet rather than being crushed.
How does moving ice affect the floating modular assembly?
While stationary ice does not harm the dock, moving ice flows (during spring thaws or in high-current rivers) can damage almost any marine structure. If your installation area is subject to heavy moving ice sheets, we recommend unpinning the modular sections and towing them to a sheltered cove or storing them on land during the spring melt.
How many cubes wide are required to construct a stable walking platform?
For safe public or industrial use, a walking platform must be at least three cubes (1.5 meters) wide. This width provides excellent stability and prevents tipping when multiple people walk on the edge, backed by each cube's buoyancy capacity of approximately 90-100 kg (approx 200 lbs) per single unit.
Will the modular system perform reliably in shallow water environments?
Yes. A main advantage of our modular system is its low draft; empty cubes draw only 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of water. During low tide, the flat bottom of the dock can rest directly on soft mud, sand, or gravel without damaging the structure, provided there are no sharp rocks or debris that could puncture the plastic.
