Absolutely. The dock structures can remain in saltwater or freshwater throughout the winter. The system is designed to handle ice expansion; the unique shape and draft design of our cubes allow the dock to slide up and rest safely on top of the ice sheet rather than being crushed.
The main factor is water flow and ice movement. If you have static ice sheet build-up, the dock safely adapts. However, if there are large blocks of moving ice carried by fast currents during a spring thaw, they can damage any stationary structure. Under those conditions, we recommend easily detaching the modular sections and storing them ashore for the winter.
For stable commercial public walking platforms or finger piers, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes. Each modular cube possesses a balanced buoyancy capacity, easily supporting body weight and keeping the deck steady underfoot.
Yes, it works wherever boat drafts permit operation. The cubes only draw about 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) of water when unloaded. The system can safely rest flat on mud or sand bottoms during low tide, provided there are no sharp rocks or debris beneath.
