The modular cubes are designed with a specific draft angle, allowing them to slide up on top of expanding ice sheets rather than becoming crushed by lateral ice pressure.
The main concern with winter ice is water flow and ice movement. If the ice thaws in place without significant movement, the dock can remain in the water safely. However, if there are large blocks of moving ice carried by strong currents, they can damage stationary structures. In locations with severe ice flow, we recommend disconnecting the modular dock and storing it on land for the winter.
For a safe, stable walking surface, we recommend a minimum width of three modular cubes (approx. 1.5 meters). This width helps distribute localized loads and prevents tipping, ensuring a secure platform for pedestrians.
