How does the Floating Dock system hold up to typhoons?
Our modular plastic docks perform well under typhoon-level stresses due to their flexible interlocking structure. Unlike rigid steel or wood docks that can crack or fail when twisted, modular HDPE docks can flex and deflect with wave motion. Our connecting pin systems allow the floats to shift slightly, helping to absorb and dissipate wave energy across the entire structure. System stability relies on using appropriate anchoring methods, such as elastic mooring lines, heavy-duty piling brackets, or weighted steel anchors.
Can I get a Floating Dock system if there is no dealer in my area?
Yes. In locations where we do not have a registered local distributor, we ship directly from our factory in China. We consolidate the order details, package the modular cubes, and arrange delivery directly to your nearest regional freight terminal or project site.
Can I leave my dock in during the winter time?
Absolutely. The dock system can remain in the water throughout the winter, including in saltwater environments. The float's bottom curves and outer surface are designed to rise upward as ice forms and closes in. This design prevents the ice from crushing the structure, allowing the pontoon to float safely on top of the sheet.
How does ice affect the system?
The main risk associated with ice is moving ice sheets rather than ice formation itself. If the ice thaws statically without high currents, the system is designed to rise on top of the freezing water without damage. However, in rivers or lakes with fast currents where large, heavy ice sheets move and collide, the shearing forces can damage stationary structures. In locations with moving ice sheets, we recommend dismantling and storing the modular dock during the winter.
How many cubes wide are needed for a stable walking platform?
Our modular cubes can be configured for floating platforms, walkways, fingers, and custom layouts. For a safe and stable public or commercial walking platform, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes (approximately 1.5 meters). This width helps distribute localized load forces, preventing excessive tipping when users walk along the outer edges.
Will the system work in shallow water?
Yes. These modular pontoons draw only 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of water when unloaded. If the tide goes out and the system rests on a sandy or muddy bottom, the HDPE shell is designed to support the weight of the platform and light watercraft. The key requirement is that the water at the edge of the dock must be deep enough during low tide to allow watercraft to float off safely.
