Can I leave my dock in the water during winter?
Absolutely. The dock is designed for year-round deployment in both freshwater and saltwater. It can remain in the ice through the winter. The tapered side profile of each cube allows the dock to pop up on top of expanding ice sheets rather than being crushed, avoiding winter damage.
How does ice movement affect the system?
The key factor is water flow and ice movement. If the ice thaws and dissipates in place, the dock can remain in the water safely. However, if your location experiences heavy currents with moving ice flows that could shear structures, we recommend dismantling and storing the dock during winter.
How many cubes wide is required for a stable walking platform?
You can configure the cubes as platforms, gangways, fingers, or custom layouts. For pedestrian walking safety, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes. This width provides balanced buoyancy (approximately 200 lbs per cube) and lateral stability for comfortable foot traffic.
