Absolutely. The dock is engineered to remain in place year-round, including in freezing conditions and saltwater environments. The sloped sidewall geometry of our single cubes ensures that as surrounding water freezes and expansion occurs, the floating dock is pushed upward, popping up on top of the ice rather than being crushed.
The main factor is ice movement and water flow. If the body of water has heavy currents or moving ice blocks that tear out structures during the spring thaw, the dock should be disassembled and stored. However, if the ice remains stationary and melts in place, the system can remain in the water all winter long.
For safe, stable walking paths, gangways, or fingers, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes (approximately 1.5 meters). This width distributes the weight of a person evenly across the platform, utilizing the buoyancy of the cubes (each supporting approximately 90 kg / 200 lbs) for minimal tilt.
Yes. Under load, our modular blocks draw only 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of water. The system can rest safely on mud or sandy bottoms during low tide, provided there are no sharp rocks or debris that could puncture the hulls. For drive-on platforms, ensure there is sufficient water depth at the rear of the dock for the boat to back off.
