How does the modular floating dock system perform during typhoons and major storm surges?
Our modular floating systems are designed to perform well in high-wind conditions like typhoons, depending on the design of the anchoring system. Instead of rigidly resisting wave forces, the interlocking HDPE system flexes along with wave patterns. This flexibility dissipates wave energy across the platform, significantly reducing peak loads on anchoring piles, tension lines, and pile brackets.
Can I buy a custom floating dock system if there is no local distributor in my region?
Yes. For regions without a local distributor, we coordinate direct factory shipments. We pack, secure, and ship systems in standard ocean containers directly to your nearest port or freight terminal for local pickup. We also provide layout diagrams and structural drawings to assist with local assembly.
Can the floating dock remain in the water during freezing winter conditions?
Yes. The modular dock system can remain in place during winter, including in saltwater environments. The outer walls of our cubes are designed with a slight taper. When surrounding water freezes, the lateral ice expansion forces push against these angled walls, causing the dock to rise slightly ("pop up") above the ice rather than being crushed.
How does heavy moving ice affect the safety of the floating structure?
While stationary ice sheet expansion is manageable, moving ice sheets or heavy spring ice runs pose structural risks to any marine installation. If your site experiences fast-moving currents with large, heavy ice sheets during spring thaws, we recommend temporarily dismantling the modular system and storing it on land to prevent damage to the anchoring system and the modules.
What width is recommended to ensure a stable walking platform?
To ensure stability for personnel walkways and general traffic, we recommend a minimum width of three cubes (1.5 meters). With each individual cube supporting approximately 90 kg (200 lbs) of local point displacement, a three-cube-wide walkway provides excellent stability and load distribution.
Will the system function properly in shallow water or tidal flats?
Yes. Our modular docks require only 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of water draft when unloaded. The system can rest directly on soft mud, sand, or gravel bottoms during low tide without structural damage. To ensure proper operation, ensure that the water depth at the launch end of the dock remains deep enough for boats to back off during tidal drops.
